A film by Lexi Leban

My Sister-In-Law, the Prime Minister is a personal essay film interrogating feminism in two different parts of the world across generations. The story features three women in one family;  Kata, the leftist, environmentalist Prime Minister of Iceland who is pushing a feminist agenda forward, Lexi, a queer American filmmaker watching the women’s rights she fought for under attack, and Sóla, her teenage daughter with a foot in both worlds coming of age with battles of her own. Over the course of the film, they navigate life transitions, confronting different aspects of the struggle for women’s empowerment, each finding a voice of her own in this world.

The film participated in the 2022 Athena Film Festival’s Work-in-Progress Program and Hot Docs Deal Maker.
